Sanur may not be the liveliest of Bali’s seafront towns, and its beach club scene may not be the most advanced, either, but there’s still plenty going on in Sanur.
One place that you may not have come across, yet, is Seagrass by the Beach by the Uno Group Bali, we certainly hadn’t, and when we found it on people’s list of beach clubs, we had to go and investigate.
Well, our team was dispatched to Sanur, and this is what they learned in Seagrass by the Beach.
Introduction – Getting To Seagrass By The Beach
Seagrass by the Beach is in the beach town of Sanur, which is not that far as the crow flies from the other beach towns such as Canggu, Kuta, Seminyak, etc. or from the central town of Ubud.
Unfortunately, Bali traffic being what it is, it can be a much longer drive to Sanur than the distance suggests, and you will want to set off around an hour earlier if you’re coming from any further than Sanur to be sure you get there on time.
Once you arrive in Sanur, you’ll find that this place is in a pleasant spot directly on the beach and that there is parking available nearby.
If you come by Grab or Gojek, your driver will be able to drop you off at the door without any problems at all.
When you enter the venue, you will be escorted to an available table as soon as one is available.

What’s Inside Seagrass By The Beach?
Seagrass is basically a beachfront restaurant rather than a fully fledged beach club, and as such, it has bar and restaurant facilities and seating appropriate for drinking and dining as opposed to lounging around.
Our Review Breakdown For Seagrass By The Beach
We always review every beach club using the same system. This allows us to be fair to the owners because we treat every property in a consistent fashion, and to our readers, who can easily compare two places using the same criteria.
However, in the case of a spot like Seagrass by the Beach, sometimes this can lead to a harsher grading than it would in a restaurant review. This place is not quite a beach club, and that will affect some of the rankings.
So, we’d encourage you to look beyond the numbers and at the content of this review.
Having said that, the system is as follows – firstly, the entire team visits the venue (though they may not all go together, at the same time or even on the same day). While they are at the venue, they will grade the place from 1 (worst) to 5 (best) against the criteria laid out below.
Once everyone has visited the venue, they meet up to discuss each person’s experiences and to take a vote on the final grade in each category.
Then, a member of the team is appointed to write up the review and to ensure that the discussions and final scores are accurately represented.
After the review goes live on our site, it will remain in place for at least a period of one year before we revisit the venue and make any changes to our comments and scores as needed.
Pre-Club Advertising
We are firm believers in the value of advertising. Your place won’t fill up if people don’t know it’s there, and while there’s no doubt that Seagrass is in a lovely position on Sanur Beach, it could always be busier.
And we haven’t seen any advertising either online or offline letting us know that Seagrass by the Beach exists.
In fact, they don’t even seem to have a website, which is inexcusable in 2025. It’s no longer a major business expense to set up a site, showcase your menu and offer booking services, particularly here in Indonesia.

Location
The location of this restaurant is pretty good. While Sanur is not the most visited beach town in Bali, it’s not that far from the other beach towns or from Ubud to be unmanageable for a day trip.
The position on the beach is excellent, and there’s no doubt that this helps to boost the popularity of Seagrass by the Beach.
However, there is one downside to this place: it’s on the wrong side of the island to enjoy an amazing sunset view, and while it does open quite early in the morning, it’s too late to enjoy the sunrise.
Booking Process & Seating Options
Unfortunately, as we mentioned earlier, there is no website for this business, and as you might expect, that means there’s no real booking system.
It did, at one time, appear to use Chope as a booking system, but has since abandoned that. So, you can try calling to make a reservation or going into the venue to try, but that’s about it.
This irks us. There’s no need for restaurants, beach clubs, etc., to be operating without a booking system in 2025.
Most importantly, if you want to travel to Sanur just to visit this restaurant, not being able to make a booking means no guarantee of a seat. Two hours in Bali traffic to miss out on lunch? No thanks.

Entry Fee
In keeping with the best beach clubs in Bali, this restaurant does not charge an entrance fee. To be fair, we strongly believe that no beach club should charge an entrance fee.
You ought to be able to walk in and see if the vibe of a place suits you, before they extract any money, and anything you pay should be for food and drinks, not just for the right to go inside.
Minimum Spend
There is also no minimum spend at this beach club, and that’s a bit less of a good thing. While we’re all for free entry, there’s a good reason to appreciate a minimum spend.
Yes, it means a commitment to spend a certain amount of money on food and drinks, but in return, it also means paying a deposit, which incentivises the beach club to accept bookings.
And as we’ve already mentioned, bookings matter. You might not need one if you’re staying in Sanur and walk past the place every day, then you can choose to pop in or not.
But if you travel, you want the security of knowing that you’ll have a table at the end of your journey; it really is that simple.

Welcome And Security
You will receive a warm Balinese welcome when you arrive at this club, and you will be seated promptly, assuming that they have a table available.
However, there’s no kind of security on the door and no bag checks. We would prefer that everywhere in Bali have some basic security in place.
It helps to keep Bali safe and ensure that there are no major or serious incidents on the premises. And it’s really not a big deal to comply with a bag check.
Inclusions
This is more of a restaurant than a fully fledged beach club, and that means there are no inclusions to speak of.
They don’t have a pool, so there are no towels, locker rooms, changing rooms, showers, etc. on hand to include.
That’s fair enough, after all, you can’t really provide support services for something that you don’t have.

Service
Unfortunately, while the service staff are kind and friendly, they are not always very efficient. There were several times when we found ourselves waiting for long periods of time for attention.
And even once orders had been taken, the response times were longer than they ought to be, and we’re used to the laid-back approach to everyday life here in Bali.
So, we’ve had to dock a few marks in this section, and that’s a shame, as every beach club ought to be able to distinguish itself via first-rate service.
Entertainment
Surprisingly, there is some entertainment available at this location, in the evenings, at least. The venue regularly has live music on, and while it’s not going to turn the venue into a party spot, it’s quite good.
We found ourselves enjoying an acoustic performance from a local band that had everyone gently swaying in their seats.
However, during the day, the music is simply piped in; there are no DJ’s or vocalists around.
Pool Quality
There is no pool at Seagrass by the Beach, which means we can’t give it any points in this category.

Menu/Drinks Pricing
We were very impressed with the menu at Seagrass by the Beach. It’s an extensive collection of Western favourites with some Indonesian dishes thrown in to add some colour.
The prices are very reasonable, and there’s no doubt that they could charge more given the location and the relative popularity of this spot on the beach.
We’d go as far as to say that they’re among the best value places on the shores of Bali, anywhere.
Food And Drink Quality
However, while the portions are big enough, they’re not always the finest food that we’ve encountered, and some things were decidedly odd (the hot chocolate was incredibly watery).
The alcoholic drinks were strong enough and decently presented, mind you.

Sunset View
There is no sunset view to be had in Sanur, as the sun sets behind you over the other side of the island.
And while there is a great sunrise view, this beach club isn’t open for sunrise.
Music And Ambience
It’s piped music all the way in this place, except for some live music in the evenings, it’s decently inoffensive and won’t put you off your conversation.
That’s fine by us, sometimes, you just want a chat with friends as you chill out by the sea and Seagrass by the Beach does a good job of that.

Payment Options
You can pay by cash or card in this restaurant, and that’s about it. We didn’t see any signs for QRIS, and that’s a shame, as it’s a very convenient way for expats and locals to pay.
Exit Process
Seagrass by the Beach is a relatively small place, and you just follow your way back out the front door, or wander off down the beach once you’ve settled your tab.
Assuming that they see you leave, the staff will wish you a cheerful farewell.

Transportation
Sanur isn’t as busy as the other beach towns, but it’s not dead, either, and you should have no real problem getting a Grab or Gojek at the end of your time at Seagrass by the Beach.
However, in peak periods, you may have to wait a little longer than you might elsewhere. If you parked nearby, retrieving your vehicle will be easy, but in peak periods, it can be heavy traffic around this part of Sanur.
Social Media Presence
They have an Instagram account which is kept relatively up to date, though as with many such accounts, there aren’t very many pictures of people, which makes it harder than necessary to work out what to expect at the venue.
They also have a Facebook account, which hasn’t been touched in years.

Other/General Comments
It’s not a beach club, it’s a seaside restaurant and very much one aimed at the mid-market. If you’re OK with that, Seagrass by the Beach is likely to satisfy your needs.
Our Overall Opinion Of Seagrass By The Beach
We enjoyed spending time at Seagrass by the Beach. It wasn’t an exceptional spot, but for a light lunch on the seafront without spending a fortune, it did the trick.
No, we wouldn’t go out of our way to return, but if we’re back in Sanur, we’ll definitely drop by.

FAQs
Can You Swim At Seagrass By The Beach?
Sort of. There is no pool at Seagrass by the Beach, which means you can’t swim inside the venue itself.
However, this venue is right on the ocean front, and there’s no doubt that you can swim safely in the ocean from Sanur Beach.
This area is protected by an offshore reef, which leads to very mild currents, and even the most beginner of swimmers or small children can swim safely (with appropriate supervision) here.
However, as the venue doesn’t have a pool, it also doesn’t provide towels or have any shower or changing facilities. So, you’ll need to take your own towel and put up with any discomfort caused by the absence of such facilities.
What Can You Do At Seagrass By The Beach?
Seagrass by the Beach is essentially a seaside restaurant, and that means you can eat, drink and converse with friends here.
The restaurant is directly on the beach, so you might also take a stroll along the sand, swim in the ocean or even build a sandcastle or two.
However, this isn’t a “beach club” and there are no parties, loud music, or other excesses to get involved with.

Is Seagrass By The Beach A Family-Friendly Venue?
Yes, children are welcome in Seagrass by the Beach as you would expect at an open-air restaurant facility.
However, there are no special facilities for kids, so they’ll need to bring their imagination to make the most of an extended time at this place.
You will also be expected to take care of your children’s health and safety in this venue and to ensure that they don’t annoy any of the other guests.
Who Owns Seagrass By The Beach?
Seagrass by the Beach is owned by the Uno Group Bali. This, in turn, is owned by a local known only as “Aunty Lily” (she has a reputation of being kind, caring and helpful) though Sedana Putra is her representative in all matters of business.
Final Thoughts On Seagrass By The Beach
Seagrass by the Beach is a very nice restaurant, and its score as a beach club shouldn’t take away from the fact that if you’re in Sanur and want breakfast, lunch or dinner, by the sea for a reasonable price, it’s a good place to go.
No, it’s not worth travelling long distances just to visit Seagrass by the Beach. There are a lot of good restaurants in Bali, and if you’re in one of the other beach towns, there will be plenty of places to eat much closer to you.
However, it’s a solid choice in Sanur, and if you’re passing through the town or staying there for a few days, you can do worse than spend some time in Seagrass by the Beach.
