Mazu Beach Club Bali Review: Balangan Beach’s Only Beach Club

Mazu Beach Club on Balangan Beach is not a big-name beach club but in Bali’s ever-growing beach club scene there is plenty of room for the smaller players too.

The location is on one of Bali’s nicest beaches and it’s generally a clean and tidy environment. But does the beach club complement the area?

That’s what our intrepid team of reviewers went to find out when they sallied forth to review Mazu Beach Club, Bali and this is what they found.

Introduction – Getting To Mazu Beach Club, Bali

Mazu Beach Club is in Pecatu not far from Uluwatu and it’s on Balangan Beach, which we think is one of the cleanest and most pristine beaches here in Bali.

That’s because the beach isn’t prone to plastic waste washing up from the ocean and it sees fewer visitors than many other beaches on the Bukit Peninsula.

However, while the beach is at the neck of the peninsula, it’s not always the easiest drive to get to Balangan Beach and this part of South Kuta/Kuta Selatan can be a long drive in Bali traffic.

What’s Inside Mazu Beach Club?

Mazu Beach Club Bali is not the most complex of beach clubs, it has a big beachfront pool area, along with bar and restaurant services and some seating areas.

Our Review Breakdown For Mazu Beach Club

We should note that we review every beach club in Bali in the same fashion to ensure fairness for the clubs themselves and to ensure that you, our readers, get easy comparison data.

Our team visits the club (and not usually at the same time or even on the same day) and each of them rates the place from 1 to 5 against 20 criteria (those laid out below).

Then, they meet up after their visits and compare notes and vote on a final rating score in each category.

One of the team is then tasked with writing up a formal review following this meeting based on the discussions that they’ve had.

Once a review goes live, we will leave it in place for, at least, one year until we next visit the club and make changes as we see fit.

Pre-Club Advertising

We had no idea that Mazu Beach Club existed before we started researching this project, in fact, we had no idea that anyone had opened a beach club on Balangan beach at all.

That means there’s not much in the way of advertising for this beach club, which is a shame as advertising leads to customers, which leads to the kind of buzz that makes for a great day out.

However, given they don’t have a website, they may not have the technical skills to deliver this kind of advertising.

Rating:

Location

The location on the Bukit Peninsula isn’t ideal from much of the island because of the traffic here in Bali which makes journeys longer than they have to be.

However, Balangan Beach is a beautiful place and it’s much less visited than many of the other beaches on this part of Bali.

So, we think that for some people the actual site will be a fair trade-off for the journey. However, there’s not a lot else in this area, though there are some bars and restaurants.

Booking Process & Seating Options

We like to be able to book a seat at any beach club. That’s because we like to be certain of a seat when we’re travelling long distances.

This isn’t possible at Mazu Beach Club because they have no website and only use an Instagram account to advertise they exist to the world.

Now, while we understand that locally owned businesses want to save a bit of money where they can – we’re lost as to how an operation with so much money invested in it as this beach club, doesn’t have a website and a booking engine.

It’s 2025, a local company could throw one together for a few hundred bucks at the most.

Rating:

Entrance Fee

Mazu Beach Club has absolutely no entrance fee and we think that’s an excellent example of how to do something right.

You shouldn’t have to cough up some cash anywhere in Bali just to take a look inside a venue and see if you like it.

We also think you should be able to order food and drinks without paying for the privilege of seeing the menu.

We like that Mazu Beach Club has plenty of no-minimum-spend seating, there’s no backdoor entrance fee, either.

Rating:

Minimum Spend

There is no minimum spend at all at Mazu Beach Club and all seats are provided on a first come, first served basis.

That’s an excellent deal if you’re looking for a cheap day out in Bali, most places require a minimum spend to use the daybeds.

However, it also means you need to get to Mazu Beach Club as soon as it opens to try and guarantee a seat and this beach club opens early in the morning.

We’d prefer they had a minimum spend, even if only a small one, and then used it to fund a booking service.

Rating:

Welcome And Security

The welcome at Mazu Beach Club was friendly enough but we were not subjected to any kind of bag check.

We’d prefer that every beach club has a security protocol to ensure the safety of its guests and while there have been no major incidents here in 20 years, we’d like it to stay that way too.

Rating:

Inclusions

There’s nothing included except the seat at Mazu Beach Club but that’s perfectly OK by us – they’re not charging an entry fee and they’re not asking for a minimum spend.

In fact, we’d go so far as to say that Mazu Beach Club staff don’t seem to be bothered if you order anything or not (see the next point).

However, we do like inclusions, such as towel rental, suntan lotion, etc. and we are prepared to pay for them (as part of a minimum spend) – we think it makes for a more refined beach club experience.

Rating:

Service

The service at Mazu Beach Club Bali is so relaxed that it might as well be horizontal. It’s friendly and kind but if you’re in a hurry, this isn’t the place to order a drink or some lunch.

We suspect that this might be tied to the lack of a minimum spend. If the staff aren’t expecting high tips, they may feel that “enough” is enough.

It’s not bad service but on an island that sets the bar for service, this is a bit below average.

Rating:

Entertainment

There is no entertainment at Mazu Beach Club but then, it’s not really that kind of club.

You come to Mazu Beach Club for a few hours of chilling in the pool, reading a book on a comfy day bed and watching the world go by.

There’s nothing more to this beach club than that and that’s perfectly OK, not every day needs to be a party, right?

Rating:

Pool Quality

The pool area is nice and it’s clean enough. However, it could, perhaps, use a little maintenance, it looks a bit worn out compared to the shots on social media.

Overall though, we were happy to swim here and the pool is more than big enough to hold as many people as Mazu Beach Club can fit inside.

Rating:

Menu/Drinks Pricing

You have to give it to Mazu Beach Club for pricing. They have a 3-hour happy hour, multiple promotions and a relatively inexpensive food and drink menu.

It’s not the cheapest beach club that we’ve ever been inside, but it’s certainly not expensive either.

Rating:

Food And Drink Quality

Overall, we were very pleased with the food here, it was tasty enough and served in decent-sized portions. It won’t win any awards for culinary excellence but that’s OK – it’s not priced as though it should.

The drinks were strong enough and if you don’t feel that the pour is big enough, buying a bottle at this place is so cheap that you can make your own.

Rating:

Sunset View

The sunset on this side of the island is incredible and watching the sun drop down behind the horizon over the Indian Ocean in Bali is always a pleasure.

Mazu Beach Club has this nailed and we felt that you could see the sunset from everywhere inside the venue.

Rating:

Music And Ambience

Apparently, there was a time when Mazu Beach Club was one of the loudest places in Bali but they’ve taken onboard customer feedback and it’s much more reasonable now.

They use a fixed playlist (mainly Afrobeats) and there are no DJs present, but the music was OK and that’s good enough for most.

Rating:

Payment Options

You can pay by cash or card anywhere inside Mazu Beach Club Bali but we didn’t see any QRIS or e-wallet services.

Rating:

Exit Process

This isn’t the biggest of beach clubs and getting out is as easy as getting in, just walk outside the way that you came in.

Rating:

Transportation

It’s not that hard to get a ride-share in this area as it’s close enough to Jimbaran to see relatively constant traffic flow.

However, you may have to wait a while at the busiest times of the day for Grab or Gojek drivers.

The onsite parking is decent enough.

Rating:

Social Media Presence

Mazu Beach Club may rely on Instagram as its only form of advertising but sadly, it doesn’t update the page very often.

Having said that, the few images that are there are decent representations of what you can expect to find.

Rating:

Other/General Comments

Would we travel for Mazu Beach Club Bali? Only if we were very nearby. But it has to be said that for a completely free to enter, no minimum spend place, it’s actually better than you might expect too.

Our Overall Opinion Of Mazu Beach Club

Mazu Beach Club’s big selling proposition is that it’s low cost and as long as you bear that in mind, you can have a nice time here.

No, it doesn’t compete with FINNS or Potato Head but it’s not trying to either. This is a place that if you’re staying in this part of South Kuta and you want some pool time, you might pop in. It’s not somewhere that you cross half of Bali to get to.

Final Thoughts On Mazu Beach Club

In a part of the island where beach clubs are thin on the ground, you don’t look a gift horse in the mouth. However, it has to be said that Mazu Beach Club, Bali does a lot right and if you’re out here in South Kuta Selatan you might want to pop in and check it out.

Sure, it’s not in the same league as FINNS or Potato Head but it has done a good job of carving out a niche that is good value for money and with no entrance fees or minimum spend arrangements.
