It’s fair to say that Octagon Ocean Club is a contender for the title of the most remote beach club on mainland Bali. That’s because it’s in West Bali National Park on the opposite side of the island from where most tourists visit.
In turn, that means this isn’t your usual day trip to a beach club, and most people who venture this far West have plans in the National Park itself, such as hiking or diving at Menjangan Island.
But our team is not a set of experts on the Bali Starling or the Mola Mola fish, but they do love their beach clubs. So, they set forth for a day in West Bali with just one mission in mind – find the Octagon Ocean Club and see how much fun they could have. This is what they learned.
Introduction – Getting To Octagon Ocean Club
Getting to Octagon Ocean Club is the biggest challenge. It’s in West Bali National Park on the Northern Coast of Bali and it’s a long drive from the airport and any of the major tourist towns in Bali.
However, if you do manage the drive then it’s pretty easy to get into the resort and there’s plenty of parking for scooters and cars. If you have a driver/Grab/etc. then they can drop you at the door easily enough.
Then, it’s a quick walk through the doors to find a seat and start relaxing.

What’s Inside Octagon Ocean Club?
Octagon Ocean Club has a nice pool area as well as restaurant and bar facilities. It has a view over the local beach but it doesn’t have direct access to the beach, though you can reach the beach easily enough from this location.
Our Review Breakdown For Octagon Ocean Club
We endeavour to review every beach club on the same basis as this is fair to both the beach club owners and to our readers, who can rely on a standard format for our reviews.
Our team visits the beach club (not always all together or even on the same day as each other) and then they grade the club out of 5 against a series of criteria (as listed below).
Once they return to the office, they discuss their findings and then they vote on a final grade in each category.
Then, one member of the team is tasked with writing up the review taking into consideration the discussion and final grades.
Then, the review goes live on our website, where it will remain for a period of, at least, one year before we revisit the beach club.
Pre-Club Advertising
We suspect that there’s not much that a beach club in West Bali National Park could do to drive business through its doors, you’re either going to be in the neighborhood or not.
This may explain why we’ve never seen an advert for Octagon Ocean Club anywhere in Bali.
However, we still feel like if you don’t promote a place, particularly one that is quite remote, you’re severely limiting the potential customer base.

Location
Getting to West Bali National Park is going to take the best part of a day in the Bali traffic from the more popular tourist areas in Bali or from Denpasar Airport.
However, once you’re there, there’s no doubt that the park is a beautiful place and worth visiting and that the Octagon Ocean Club is on a very pleasant piece of shoreline.
Booking Process & Seating Options
Yes, it’s a resort in the middle of nowhere but really, it’s still 2025 and we can’t fathom why there’s no online booking facility for a place that’s as good as this.
You will need to click a WhatsApp button and then conduct your reservation negotiations over the phone. It’s so 1990.

Entry Fee
In keeping with the best practices of the best beach clubs in Bali, there’s no entrance fee to the Octagon Ocean Club.
We firmly believe that this is the only way that a beach club should operate. You ought to be able to walk in and buy a beer, sit down and enjoy a meal without paying for the privilege of walking in.
Minimum Spend
There is no minimum spend at the Octagon Ocean Club and while we don’t hate this practice (we think it’s fair that if you want the best seats, you agree to be an economically viable customer), it can save you money.
Equally, it can ensure you don’t get a seat at all, because the venue has no incentive to keep a reserved seat reserved for any longer than the agreed arrival time, if they have a paying customer in the venue who wants to take it.
This may be no big deal if you’re in an area with lots of beach clubs, but we’d be pretty miffed if there was no room at the inn if the inn was in West Bali National Park.

Welcome And Security
You’ll get a warm welcome when you arrive at the Octagon Ocean Club and yes, we could understand the argument for the lack of security being “it’s a long drive from anywhere, surely bad folks would choose somewhere closer?”
But we’d still prefer a security check all the same. We think it’s on beach clubs to play their part in ensuring a safe environment for their guests and that starts with a basic bag check.
Inclusions
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that if there’s no entrance fee and no minimum spend, nothing is included as part of your visit to Octagon Ocean Club.
You will have to pay for everything you use including the rental of a towel (or more than one if you’re in a group) to use the swimming pool.
That’s fair enough and we don’t think it’s particularly burdensome to pay for the facilities you want to use.

Service
The service at the Octagon Ocean Club is very good and while it’s not quite on the same level as you’d expect at FINNS or Potato Head, it’s nonetheless to a high standard.
The staff can be proud of their warm, welcoming and friendly attitudes and of the efficiency with which they serve their guests – this is Balinese hospitality as it’s meant to be.
Entertainment
Not every beach club has entertainment and to be fair, we doubt anyone’s ever gone to the Octagon Ocean Club with the expectations of a party anyway.
So, there isn’t any entertainment except for some fairly basic piped music which is pretty much standard for these sorts of places.

Pool Quality
The pool area is kept clean and well-maintained and the water was warm and wet, which is about ideal for a swimming pool in Bali.
We’d be happy to swim here whenever we return to the Octagon Ocean Club, which probably won’t be too often given how far away it is from the popular tourist towns here in Bali, where our team is based.
Menu/Drinks Pricing
The meals at Octagon Ocean Club are reasonably priced and the drinks offerings are too. We feel that this is partly a reflection of the fact that the majority of the menu consists of Balinese dishes and thus, they need to compete with other warungs and restaurants in the area.
However, they also have a decent selection of Italian dishes and those are cheaper than you’d expect in most beach clubs in Bali.

Food And Drink Quality
While the food wasn’t quite as good as at the best beach clubs, it wasn’t far off either. There’s something very nice about sitting at the octagon shaped tables here and dining with a little sand on the dining room floor.
The drinks are well prepared and strong enough if you need alcohol but there’s less in the way of first-rate presentation which you might expect at one of the more prestigious beach clubs here in Bali.
Sunset View
Unfortunately, they’re on the wrong side of the island for a spectacular sunset view and that means we can’t really give them any points for this.
The sunset takes place behind you rather than over the ocean as it would at one of the Canggu beach clubs.

Music And Ambiance
The music here is very much “background” and we were OK with that. While the beach clubs of the South of the island definitely need some character from the music, we had spent the day exploring the national park before we visited this beach club and it was nice to chill and appreciate the natural world around us.
Payment Options
As you’d expect for a beach club that is a long way from an ATM, they take pretty much every form of payment that’s legal in Indonesia here.
Though, as so often happens, we didn’t see any signs offering QRIS payments which is a shame as it’s a very popular system here in Indonesia.

Exit Process
The Octagon Ocean Club isn’t the biggest place in Bali, in fact, it has a maximum capacity of 250 people, so it won’t take long to walk back out the way you came in and leave.
You will, of course, be wished a warm farewell on your way out the door too, that last lovely touch of Balinese hospitality.
Transportation
There’s no getting around this, you need your own transport to and from this beach club. The club is in the middle of nowhere and there will be no Grab or Gojek services of any kind.
While the beach club might be able to arrange a taxi for you, it’s likely to be very expensive and you may have to wait some time for it to turn up.
We’d recommend that you hire a private car and driver (it’s not expensive, 600,000 IDR (about $40 USD or $60 AUD) will get you a car, driver and gas for 8 hours) and that they wait for you while you enjoy your time here.

Social Media Presence
There is no direct social media presence for this beach club, it’s part of the Plataran Menjangan Resort and the hotel has a great social media presence but the beach club is only lightly featured in it.
We’d like to see more of this beautiful place online, to encourage other people to venture out to the national park and to Octagon Ocean Club.
Other/General Comments
It may be a long way from anywhere, but there’s no doubt that Bali’s national park deserves more visitors than it gets and there’s no doubt in our minds that if we’re passing through this part of Bali, we will be stopping at Octagon Ocean Club again.
One thing to watch out for here though is monkeys. The beach club is open to the natural world and sometimes wild monkeys enter the venue and make things interesting.
It’s best to let the staff deal with them and stay away from these entertaining but often mischief making and occasionally violent wild creatures.
Our Overall Opinion Of Octagon Ocean Club
While we definitely wouldn’t plan a trip out to this corner of Bali just for Octagon Ocean Club, we can say that it’s a great place to come if you are in West Bali National Park.
This area is a place of outstanding natural beauty and we’d like to see it get more visitors than it does at the moment. You could even stay at the neighbouring resort if you wanted to make a big trip of it.

FAQs
Can You Swim At Octagon Ocean Club?
Yes! There is a very pleasant oceanfront infinity pool at the Octagon Ocean Club and given the club’s remote location, for now, you’re unlikely to find much competition from people wanting to use the space making it ideal for swimming.
This is good news, because while this beach club is above a beach, it’s not the ideal beach for walking on and thus, getting to the ocean for a swim can be more than you want to endure.
It’s also not a great beach for building sandcastles, so if you have kids in tow, we’d recommend they stick to the infinity pool under your watchful eye too.
What Can You Do At Octagon Ocean Club?
You can swim, eat and drink at Octagon Ocean Club. It’s not a party venue, so there’s not much in the way of entertainment, etc.
We’d also note that as it’s situated in West Bali National Park, there’s an assumption that you come to the beach club to relax after swimming, hiking, diving, etc. so the beach club isn’t set up for sporting activities.
Is Octagon Ocean Club A Family-Friendly Venue?
Yes, Octagon Ocean Club is a family-friendly venue. Children of all ages are welcome inside the venue as long as they are under the careful supervision of their parents or guardians.
However, there are no special facilities for kids in this beach club, so your children will need to make their own entertainment. To be fair, if you’re in West Bali National Park, your options for things for kids to do, in general, are a bit limited.
Youngsters who aspire to be the next Steve Irwin or Gerald Durrell will love the park, but it might not be to the tastes of a hardcore computer gamer.
Who Owns Octagon Ocean Club?
Najib Abudllah, a local businessman, owns the Plataran Group which holds the Octagon Ocean Club as one of its assets.
Final Thoughts On Octagon Ocean Club
The Octagon Ocean Club is a wonderful addition to West Bali National Park. The park itself is the only national park in Bali and you’ll find it contains every type of animal and bird on the island as well as all the different ecosystems.
Just offshore is Menjangan Island which is one of the finest diving destinations in Bali and the island is also home to a herd of itinerant deer. So, that’s worth a visit too.
However, we’d visit the national park, because you want to see the park and let Octagon Ocean Club be a little treat on top, there’s definitely no reason to travel to the other side of the island for a beach club when there are many other choices of beach club in the main tourist destinations.
