Oneeighty Bali Review: Is The Famous Sky Pool Worth The Hype?

If you search for beach clubs in Bali, it’s almost impossible not to stumble upon Oneeighty Bali. This beach club stands out because of the spectacular sky pool and incredible views of the cliffs in Uluwatu.

We visited Oneeighty to see for ourselves if this beach club is worth the hype or if it’s just another one of Bali’s many beach clubs.

Introduction – Getting To Oneeighty Bali

Oneeighty is located upon a clifftop in Uluwatu and is part of the 5-star villa resort Edge Bali. You can easily reach Oneeighty using Grab or Gojek.

The drive from Thomas Beach is about 20 minutes. The drive will take a lot longer if your hotel is located in the Seminyak area.

Bali is known for the bad traffic, so it will take you roughly two hours to reach Oneeighty from Seminyak.

If you are planning on staying for the whole day, this might not be the worst thing, but since the Oneeighty day pass is only valid for a four-hour stay, you might want to reconsider if the drive is worth it.

Opening Hours: Open daily, every day except for Nyepi, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

What’s Inside Oneeighty Bali?

One hundred sixty-two meters above the Indian Ocean, you will find Oneeighty’s famous sky pool. The glass bottom pool extends the cliff by 6 meters and offers stunning views of the surroundings.

The over-cliff part of the swimming pool is perfect for sightseeing, but the other part of the pool is better for swimming. With a depth of about 1.7 meters, you should not be surprised if your feet can’t touch the floor when you get in.

The last part of the pool is mostly for lounging. With some sunbeds located in this area, it’s the perfect spot to cool down without having to swim.

Besides the pools, you will also find a small lagoon at Oneeighty. This lagoon has several layers and can accommodate four persons at once. Oneeighty also has a restaurant, an enclosed bar and a VIP deck.

Our Review Breakdown For Oneeighty Bali

All the beach clubs we review are reviewed in the same way. Our team personally visits the club and rates it on a scale from 1 (worst) to 5 (best) across 20 different subjects.

Afterwards, we discuss our ratings and make sure they represent our collective experience in the best way possible.

After this, we will publish our final review, which will stay in place for at least one year until we visit this beach club again. We will then reevaluate our review and make changes where necessary.

Pre-Club Advertising

Besides some posters in the Uluwatu area, we have not seen much advertising from Oneeighty. It seems like they rely on others to spread the word about this clifftop day club.

We always think not advertising is such a wasted opportunity. Especially since the beach club was not fully booked when we visited.

Location

All the way to the most southern parts of Bali, you will find Oneeighty Bali. The Uluwatu area is known for its spectacular cliffs and Oneeighty happens to be located on top of one.

Overlooking the crashing waves and skilled surfers, this beach club offers a stunning view.

In the area, you will find some other hotels and resorts, but for restaurants, you must go to a different part of the island.

Booking Process & Seating Options

If you want to visit Oneeighty Bali, you can book online using their website. You have to choose the date and specific time you want to visit and after that, you can choose from different seats.

For general admission, you get to choose from sun loungers, single beds or a sofa. Every seating option comes with the same price.

You can also opt for VIP admission. The VIP deck is a separate area and guarantees front-row seating for the best views.

The third option is the pool cabana. There are only three of its kind and they are located on the other side of the pool for more privacy.

After selecting our preferred seat, we were thrown off a bit when we saw the notification. It said, ‘You have a table,’ which left us confused since we wanted a sunbed.

We went through with the booking anyway and we did end up getting the sunbed, but the wording could have been better.

Besides, we think it’s a shame you don’t get to choose the exact sunbed you want. With today’s technology, a map should not be too much to ask for.

Entry Fee

To enter this beach club, you will have to choose between general admission, VIP or pool cabana access.

General admission costs 500,00 IDR per person, VIP day pass costs 3,000,000 IDR per bed (up to 3 persons) and a pool cabana goes for 4,000,000 IDR (also up to 3 persons).

Just to let you know, general admission does not come with a day pass. You’ll only be allowed to stay up to four hours. If you’re lucky, you can stay longer but don’t count on it.

Rating:

Minimum Spend

The admission fee also includes a minimum spend. This is different for every area. For general admission, the included minimum spend is 400,000 IDR.

The VIP minimum spend is 1,000,000 IDR, which is only one-third of the admission fee. The pool cabana comes with a minimum spend of 2,000,000 IDR.

Now, these numbers are not necessarily high for beach clubs in Bali, but paying 3,000,000 IDR and only being able to spend 1,000,000 IDR on food and drinks does not seem like a good deal to us.

Welcome And Security

We have not had the best experience with hotel/beach club combinations, but Oneeighty did an excellent job at making us feel welcome.

When we arrived with our Grab driver, we were asked where we were going. Our Grab driver was allowed to bring us to the entrance of Oneeighty’s lobby. Unlike other hotels, Edge Bali has a separate entrance for beach club visitors.

After a friendly greeting, we were informed that we had to sign a contract before entering the beach club.

The contract said to wear appropriate swimwear, not put your chest above the glass pool edge and informed us of the 6500 USD fine you will get for discharging fecal matters into the pool. Like many other beach clubs, alcohol-branded attire is also not permitted.

For us, signing a contract before entering a beach club was a first. Although the contract was not unreasonable, we do wonder why it’s necessary.

When we were shown to our seats, the hostess pointed out the different areas and where to find the toilet and informed us of the free wifi. We think it’s things like this that make the welcome feel a bit more thoughtful and warm.

Inclusions

If you opt for general admission, you get to use a nice sunbed that comes with a pool towel and pool use as well. It’s pretty standard for a beach club, so if you are looking for something more special, we suggest booking the VIP package.

The VIP package includes seats on the VIP deck with a pool towel, a cold towel on arrival, free flow ice water, a bottle of imported house wine, Welcome Granita, Chef’s oyster and Salmon canape, Mixed Nuts and VIP amenities.

The pool cabana includes the same things as VIP, but you’ll get the pool cabana instead of a seat on the VIP deck.

Service

When we were shown to our seats, we were informed of the QR-code menu. Now, normally, we prefer a physical menu over a QR-code, but this one was quite useful since we could place our order online.

Although we like chatting with the staff while ordering, placing an order online definitely has its pros. You can order at any time and therefore don’t have to wait for a staff member to notice you.

At one point, we had to wait quite a long time for our dish, so we checked with the staff to see if our order had come through. After looking into it, they informed us that our order, indeed, had not come through. However, they were happy to help and took our order themselves.

Rating:

Entertainment

To our surprise, Oneeight does not offer any type of entertainment. Sure, there is music, but that’s about it. In our opinion, this is a real missed opportunity.

Unlike many other beach clubs, Oneeighty does not host special events. We think this beach club could really profit from, for example, live music during sunset. It’s things like these that make the experience extra memorable.

Rating:

Pool Quality

As we talked about before, Oneeighty has some spectacular pools. The over-edge pool area is definitely a cool feature and is a refreshing change from all the other beach clubs with an infinity pool.

However, to our disappointment, it was almost impossible to see through the glass bottom or sides. Sure, you could peek over the edge, but what is the point of a glass bottom and glass side if you can’t see, though?

Rating:

Menu/Drinks Pricing

Even by beach club standards, we found the menu of Oneeighty to be on the expensive side. Cocktail prices start at 145,000 IDR and if you’re in the mood for a spaghetti bolognese, you’ll have to pay 175,000 IDR.

If you are feeling particularly fancy, you can also opt for one of the more expensive items on the menu. For example, the bamboo lobster will cost you 595,000 IDR and kristal caviar 1,950,000 IDR.

Rating:

Food And Drink Quality

We were quite pleased with the portions of the food we ordered. We think it’s such a shame when you order something and it’s simply not enough. Oneeighty luckily did a good job here.

The quality of the food was good as well, and that is to be expected with a chef with experience at a five-star hotel in the United States. However, we weren’t a big fan of the tomato sauce on the pizza; it tasted a bit off, in our opinion.

Rating:

Sunset View

At some point in the afternoon, the sun disappears behind the Edge villas, which is located next to the beach club. If you prefer to be in the shadow anyway, this isn’t a big issue, but if you like catching the last sunrays, you might be disappointed.

The sunset was not as good as we expected, but seeing the sky change colour while relaxing in the sky pool above the Indian Ocean was a memorable experience.

Rating:

Music And Ambiance

Oneeighty Bali has a relaxed atmosphere and we thought the pop music complemented that nicely. Even though the atmosphere was very chill, we sometimes had trouble to relax.

Oneeighty seems to be a popular spot for micro-influencers to take pictures. Don’t get us wrong, we like taking pictures and we think you should capture your relaxation, but standing in line to get the perfect shot seems a bit excessive.

We were very aware of all the cameras pointing in all directions, which kind of altered our experience. Nonetheless, the venue is beautiful, and we get it, but maybe tone it down a bit.

Rating:

Payment Options

Like most beach clubs, Oneeighty accepts payment in cash or card. We did not note any availability of QRIS or e-wallet payments, though.

Rating:

Exit Process

Exiting Oneeighty isn’t hard, but note that the venue is not wheelchair friendly. You’ll have to climb up some steps, but for most, this is light work. After the steps, a golf cart will take you to the lobby. If you don’t feel like waiting, you can walk, which is perfectly doable as well.

Rating:

Transportation

When you reach the lobby, a friendly staff member will be waiting for you and will ask you about your preferred transportation.

We told him that we booked a ride using Grab and showed him the number plate. We were then told to wait in the lounge and the staff member would inform us when our ride had arrived.

A big pro of this beach club is that Grab and Gojek are allowed to pick up or drop off their customers right in front of the lobby.

Rating:

Social Media Presence

Oneeighty has a good working website as well as social media. The website is rather simple, but it does the job. On social media, they give a very tropical vibe, which we like, but they could be more active.

Rating:

Other/General Comments

We would like to point out once again that the general admission does not include an Oneeighty day pass.

General admission is good for a four-hour stay. If you are looking to spend the whole day here, you will have to book the VIP one eightyday pass.

We think this is a stupid rule and we believe you should not have to pay more to stay longer.

Our Overall Opinion Of Oneeighty Bali

Overall, we had a nice time at Oneeighty Bali. The pool is nice and the sunbeds are very comfortable. The food and drinks were tasty as well and the atmosphere was chill.

However, the influencers were quite annoying and the general admission only guaranteed a four-hour stay. We think Oneeighty Bali could improve these aspects and make the stay of their guests even more enjoyable.

Who Owns Oneeighty Bali?

When searching the internet, we couldn’t find the exact owner of Oneeighty, but we did find the owner of The Edge Bali. Final Thoughts On Oneeighty Bali

Oneeighty Bali definitely has some adjustments to make if they want to be considered among the best. A four-hour stay limit is, in our opinion, bizarre and we think you should not have to pay at least dubbel just to enjoy the whole day at this club.

On the other hand, the food and the drinks are of good quality and the portions are big as well. We think this is a nice place to relax with friends or family if you don’t mind the cameras and the posing.
