Lovina in Northern Bali isn’t famous for its beach club scene but there are a few beach clubs popping up in the area now and one of those is the Sea Sky Restaurant and Beach Club at the Lovina Resort.
So, given that we’re loath to refuse a day out on the Northern shores of this beautiful island, our review team was happy to head out to Lovina and investigate the Sea Sky Beach Club for you, our readers. This is what they learned.
Introduction – Getting To Sea Sky Restaurant & Beach Club
Lovina is a fairly long drive from the Southern beach towns and Ubud, where the majority of tourists stay on the island.
To get there, you will probably want to hire a private car and driver (the good news is that this is cheap and 600,000 IDR which is about $40 USD or $60 AUD will get you a driver, car and fuel for 8 hours).
If you set off in the early morning before the majority of the traffic, it will take 2-3 hours to get there from places like Canggu, Kuta and Ubud. If, however, you get caught in the traffic, it may take much longer.
That means, we’d advise you to stay overnight (at least) in Lovina if you want to spend time at Sea Sky Beach Club. To be fair, given that Lovina is famous for its dolphins – most people do stay overnight so that they can join a dolphin watching expedition at dawn.
When you arrive at this beach club, you will be dropped at the front door of the resort and there is parking available if you opted to drive yourself, which we really don’t recommend.

What’s Inside Sea Sky Beach Club?
There is a pleasant pool facility, some garden space and restaurant and bar facilities. There is also direct access to the beach but the beach itself is not great and all but disappears at high tide. Most people will probably stick to the beach club’s facilities.
Our Review Breakdown For Sea Sky Beach Club
In order to provide the beach club owners with some fairness and to ensure that our audience always gets a consistent review, we use a standard format for every review on our website.
The team heads out to visit a beach club, this doesn’t mean that everyone visits at the same time or even on the same day, and each member of the team grades that beach club from 1 (worst) to 5 (best) against the criteria listed below.
Once they have all visited the beach club, they meet up and discuss their experiences and vote on a final grade for each criterion.
Finally, one team member is elected to write up the review and to represent the discussions and final grading for our site.
Once a review goes live, it will be, at least, one year before we revisit a beach club and amend any grades, feedback, etc. as necessary.

Pre-Club Advertising
We understand that it’s a challenge advertising a beach club in a part of Bali that sees fewer visitors than the Southern beach towns and Ubud, but there’s a reason we have a score for pre-club advertising too.
We’d never heard of this beach club before we set up our site and started researching because the beach club doesn’t seem to advertise either online or offline.
This means that they are relying on walk-in business from people in the area around the beach club and given that beach clubs are a social experience, this means it’s not as busy as it could be.
Location
Lovina is not the easiest of places to get to and it’s also on the wrong side of the island for a glorious sunset over the ocean.
However, there’s no doubt that it’s an attractive place and there’s a pleasant view out over the sea here all the same.
Because it’s part of a resort, they have ample onsite parking which isn’t something you can say for every beach club in Bali.

Booking Process & Seating Options
In 2025, you’d think it would be easy to make a reservation at a beach club or even resort restaurant by booking online but in the case of the Sea Sky Beach Club, you’d be dead wrong.
There is no booking engine of any kind on the website, in fact, there’s not even a WhatsApp contact. You can call the hotel and try and make a reservation but it’s a fairly painful process.
We’re lost as to how people can invest so much money in building a hotel, surrounding it with nice things like a beach club, etc. and then fail to spend any money on encouraging customers to come and enjoy these facilities. Yes, you can book a room in the hotel online, but that’s it.
Entry Fee
In keeping with all the best beach clubs in Bali, there’s no entrance fee for the Sea Sky Beach Club and that’s a good thing.
You shouldn’t have to spend any money for the privilege of walking into a restaurant/bar facility just to sit down and be able to order a beer and some food that you’re going to have to pay more for.
While we can understand that some clubs need an entrance fee to pay visiting artists/bands, that’s not the case at this beach club and thus, we applaud the fact there’s no entrance fee.

Minimum Spend
There is also no minimum spend at the Sea Sky Beach Club and this, we’re less keen on. While we do understand that this is a benefit in terms of not having to commit to spending a certain amount of money before you’ve even laid eyes on a facility – it’s not all upside.
The downside is that unless you pay a deposit for a daybed by the pool, the beach club has no incentive to keep a reservation for you. Turn up 5 minutes late? If there’s a queue at the front door, your bed will have been given away to somebody in it.
Given that this beach club is a long way from most of the rest of the island, we would prefer to be able to secure a seat before we visit. Having said that, on our visit – it wasn’t all that busy, either.
Welcome And Security
You will receive a warm Balinese welcome at the Sea Sky Beach Club and the hotel staff will make you feel wanted and appreciated for being there.
However, there’s absolutely no security check of any kind and while, like everyone, we enjoy the convenience of this – we’d prefer that clubs made certain of the health and safety of their visitors by employing bag checks.
Sure, the odds of something bad happening are pretty small at a beach club in Bali, but the odds would be even lower if there was security on the door.

Inclusions
There is no entrance fee and no minimum spend at this beach club and as you might expect, that means there are no inclusions either.
If you need a towel, however, the resort will happily lend you one for a small fee which is fair enough, they have to make a profit somehow.
Service
The service at this beach club is exactly what we’d expect from a Balinese hospitality organization, it’s warm, friendly and the staff are willing to go the extra mile.
However, it’s not quite as polished as the service at the 5-star resort beach clubs and the very best beach clubs on the island, but it’s still very good and their staff are a credit to this beach club.

Entertainment
Not every beach club in Bali is about entertainment. They do have the occasional live music performance here on the garden during the day and sometimes at night in the bar too.
However, overall, there’s just a bit of piped music in the background. That’s fine, the vibe here is very much “chill by the sea” rather than “party until dawn” and we’re OK with that.
Not every place has to go all out to keep your interest, sometimes, it’s fine to be left to your own devices too.
Pool Quality
The pool area is very nice and it’s kept clean and well-maintained, we’d always be happy to swim here and in our limited experience, the beach club never gets busy enough to prevent you from swimming easily here.
Given that this area is not a good place for ocean swimming due to potentially dangerous currents and riptides, this is very good news for visitors.
It’s a nice place to stop to cool off during the heat of the day when visiting Lovina for this reason.

Menu/Drinks Pricing
While the prices on the menu are on the high side for Lovina, which tends to be much cheaper than Ungasan, Uluwatu, Kuta, Jimbaran, Canggu and Seminyak, for example, they are pretty cheap for a beach club in Bali.
With main courses starting at 100,000 IDR (that’s about $6 USD or $10 AUD), you won’t go hungry here.
The beers are very cheap for a beach club, and the “local cocktails” (made with arak, a Balinese spirit) are probably the cheapest cocktails on the island in a beach club.
However, the ordinary cocktails are roughly the same price as elsewhere.
Food And Drink Quality
While they’re probably not going to win any awards for the food here, it’s decent enough and the portions are of a reasonable size too.
The drinks are fairly strong and substantial and everything is presented nicely.
Overall, it’s on par with a decent mid-tier restaurant in the bigger beach towns and you won’t regret dining here.

Sunset View
Sadly, this beach club doesn’t really have a sunset view and that’s because it’s on the wrong side of the island and even though it’s open early, it doesn’t have much of a sunrise view either.
This is a bit of a shame because sunsets are a huge benefit of spending an evening at a beach club, but you can’t do much about geography, can you?
Music And Ambiance
This beach club has background music most of the time, with the occasional live band brought in with no set schedule.
We didn’t get to see the band when we were there, but the background music was fine – it didn’t stand out in anyway and just provided a backdrop for conversation and chilling.

Payment Options
You can pay by card or with cash in this beach club which is just about standard here in Bali.
What we didn’t see were any signs advertising QRIS payments and we like QRIS, it’s one of the easiest ways to pay here.
Exit Process
The Blue Sky Beach Club isn’t the biggest beach club in Bali and we doubt anyone will have trouble retracing their way to the front door of the resort.
The staff will bid you a warm and cheery farewell as you depart and that’s really about as much as you can ask for.

Transportation
Lovina is a bit remote and while there are Grab and Gojek services in the town, they’re a bit hit and miss and at busy times, you may end up waiting a long time for a ride.
Most people will arrive at this beach club either on their own transport or with a private car and driver, and they will leave this beach club in the same fashion.
Social Media Presence
The Sea Sky Restaurant & Beach Club does have an Instagram and they do keep the page regularly updated which was a bit of a surprise to us.
We’d also say that the page is a reasonable representation of the beach club itself, though it suffers from an absence of people at times – we’d much rather see a place full of people having fun than a shot of a table of food.

Other/General Comments
We doubt that this beach club is going to be anybody’s favourite beach club in Bali but it does everything you can reasonably expect of a small beach club in Lovina and it does it well enough too.
Our Overall Opinion Of Sea Sky Beach Club
Would we travel to Lovina just for the Sea Sky Beach Club? Definitely not. But if we were in Lovina, we’d definitely pop in as it’s a very pleasant spot and has everything we really need for a quick break on a hot, sunny Bali day.

FAQs
Can You Swim At Sea Sky Beach Club?
Yes! You can swim in the pool at Sea Sky Beach Club and, in theory, you could also swim in the ocean on the beach at this beach club.
However, while the pool area is clean and well-maintained and we’d be happy to swim there on a return visit, we’re less convinced about the safety of the sea in this area.
It’s prone to some fairly violent currents that might drag even an experience swimmer out into deep water and the beach itself disappears at high-tide. We’d stick to the pool here.
What Can You Do At Sea Sky Beach Club?
You can swim, you can lounge around by the pool, you can eat and drink at the Sea Sky Beach Club in Lovina, Bali.
This is very much a resort facility and that means it’s not geared towards loud parties or high-end entertainment. It’s a nice spot to stop for a few hours with friends on a sunny day or to enjoy reading a book on a comfy daybed while sipping cocktails.
Is Sea Sky Beach Club A Family-Friendly Venue?
Yes, in common with most resort beach clubs, Sea Sky Beach Club is a family-friendly venue and you will be able to bring children of all ages into the club.
However, in keeping with most beach clubs in Bali, you are expected to keep an eye on your own children and ensure that they do not annoy other guests.
The Sea Sky Beach Club has no special facilities for kids though and if they’re likely to get bored of playing in the pool, there’s not much else for them to do.
Who Owns Sea Sky Beach Club?
The ownership of the resort and beach club isn’t in the public domain. However, it seems fairly certain that this property is under Indonesian ownership and management.
Final Thoughts On Sea Sky Beach Club
The Sea Sky Beach Club is a fairly adequate facility in Lovina. It’s certainly not the most amazing beach club we’ve been to, but in an area without a huge amount of choice – it’s good enough all the same.
If you fancy a few hours out of the day relaxing by the pool and enjoying cold drinks and local food, you’ll be happy enough. Just don’t expect a party vibe like you get at places like FINNS, this isn’t that kind of beach club.
