Sunset Beach Bar & Grill Bali Review: A Newly Revamped Beach Bar

The Sunset Beach Bar & Grill Bali is attached to the Intercontinental Bali Resort and it’s famous for the bar’s signature cocktail and the tasty grill features delectable grilled fresh seafood.

However, the question we wanted to answer was, does this make the Sunset Beach Bar & Grill Bali a top destination for beach club fans?

Our team tarried forth to Jimbaran to find out and this is what they learned under the swaying coconut palms on the white sanded beach at this open-air venue.

Introduction – Getting To Sunset Beach Bar

The Intercontinental Bali Resort is in Jimbaran Bay which is the perfect spot to get to from most of the rest of the island.

This idyllic location is on the “neck” between the mainland of Bali and the Bukit Peninsula and thus, it’s quite driveable from Canggu, Seminyak, Kuta, Legian, Ubud, Uluwatu and even Nusa Dua and Ungasan.

Of course, you will have to take into account Bali’s traffic before you travel anywhere but Sunset Beach Bar & Grill Bali is very much in an accessible spot.

What’s Inside Sunset Beach Bar?

Sunset Beach Bar & Grill Bali is very much a restaurant and bar with access to the local beach. It’s also a home to daily live music but there’s no pool here. So, if you want to swim, it’s going to be in the ocean.

Our Review Breakdown For Sunset Beach Bar

We try to review every venue in Bali in the same fashion. This means that we treat every place fairly and in an equal manner.

It also means that our readers can rely on a similar format for every review to help them compare different beach club properties.

This means that our team visits the club (and they don’t all visit at the same time or even on the same day) and every member of the team scores the place from 1 (worst) to 5 (best) in each of the 20 categories listed below.

Then, after everyone has been there, the team meet and votes on the final scores in each category and discusses their experiences. This ensures that the final review properly reflects the experience of any given beach club from a diverse collection of perspectives.

Finally, a team member writes up our review and it goes live on our site. It then remains in place until a year has passed and we revisit the club.

Pre-Club Advertising

There is no advertising at all for the Sunset Beach Bar & Grill Bali and that’s probably not that surprising given that it’s in one of the island’s best resorts and is mainly for the use of hotel guests.

However, they do allow reservations and walk-in visitors and thus, we feel they ought to be trying to let people know it exists to ensure that it’s always busy. After all, what’s a bar without guests?

Rating:

Location

The Sunset Beach Bar & Grill Bali is in Jimbaran Bay which is one of the most accessible parts of the island.

While you may have to endure a longer ride than the distance allows for from other parts of the island, that’s just how Bali traffic works.

When you arrive, you will find that the Sunset Beach Bar & Grill Bali is in an idyllic location on a very attractive beach. The only downside comes when trying to get a ride share home, but more on this later in our transport section.

Booking Process & Seating Options

There is a fully online booking system for Sunset Beach Bar & Grill Bali and you can find it on the Intercontinental Bali Resort’s website.

However, it doesn’t allow you to secure the reservations with a deposit. This, in turn, means they will only hold your spot for 15 minutes. Get there late (and in the Balinese traffic this is highly possible) and they will give your seat away.

This may make a big difference if you need to travel some distance to get to the Sunset Beach Bar & Grill Bali. After all, why travel a long way to be uncertain of a seat when you arrive?

Rating:

Entry Fee

There is no entrance fee at the Sunset Beach Bar & Grill Bali and if the Intercontinental Bali Resort can manage that – why can’t some of the other beach clubs?

We believe that everyone should be free to walk into a beach club, check out the vibe and decide if it’s the perfect spot for them without having to pay to walk in or having to commit to a minimum spend.

Rating:

Minimum Spend

Speaking of minimum spends, there is no minimum spend at the Sunset Beach Bar & Grill Bali but that’s not always a good thing.

While it does mean that you are free to only order what you want and pay for that – it also means that they don’t take a deposit for reservations and that means you’re subject to very tight windows for arrival or your seat can be given to somebody else.

Rating:

Welcome And Security

This is the Intercontinental Bali Resort and you will recieve the kind of welcome that you’d expect at a 5-star hotel with this kind of reputation.

You will also be politely security searched as you enter the resort grounds. We approve of this – we like our beach club experiences to be safe.

Rating:

Inclusions

In fairness to the Sunset Beach Bar & Grill Bali, they don’t have a pool and they don’t charge an entrance fee or a minimum spend, there’s not much to include except the Wi-Fi password (which they do).

However, this also means that we can’t give them a high mark in this category because nothing is included, you will need to pay for every service you access individually.

Rating:

Service

The Sunset Beach Bar & Grill Bali sets a very high standard for service and you will find that you can relax and unwind as the staff take care of your every need in this newly revamped beach bar.

This beach bar is very much on par with the best beach clubs and best hotel clubs on the island when it comes to service.

Rating:

Entertainment

We were pleasantly surprised to find they have daily live music after sunset. It makes for a very relaxed vibe as you enjoy a tasty dinner. During the day you can chill to some basic piped music.

We should note, however, that there’s no additional entertainment and this bar doesn’t compete with places like FINNS when it comes to the top-rated venues in this category.

Rating:

Pool Quality

There is no pool at the Sunset Beach Bar & Grill Bali. Of course, resort guests will have access to pools in other parts of the resort but if you’re an outside guest, you will not be able to swim here.

Rating:

Menu/Drinks Pricing

As you might expect, this is the Intercontinental Bali Resort and the prices on the menu at Sunset Beach Bar & Grill Bali are very high, indeed.

That doesn’t mean that you’re not getting what you pay for, mind you. It just means that whether or not there’s a minimum spend in place, you will spend more money here than at most beach clubs in Bali.

Rating:

Food And Drink Quality

However, the Sunset Beach Bar & Grill Bali offers excellent comfort foods and the bar’s signature cocktail is renowned throughout the land.

If you want an open-air venue serving food that will delight your taste buds, this is as good a spot as any. It’s not quite fine dining tier, but it’s very close and your plate won’t let you down here.

Rating:

Sunset View

The sunset view from this bar is spectacular and you can enjoy the famous Bali crimson-streaked sunset in all its glory from every part of the venue.

Jimbaran is on the right side of the island to get the best views of the sunset.

Rating:

Music And Ambiance

The live music is very good and people enjoy a dance in the early evening. However, it’s very much pop/rock tailored to keep the average tourist happy, so it may not be everyone’s cup of tea.

We very much enjoyed it, however.

Rating:

Payment Options

You can pay by cash or card anywhere in the resort including at the Sunset Beach Bar & Grill Bali. However, we didn’t see any QRIS or e-wallet options.

Rating:

Exit Process

The Sunset Beach Bar & Grill Bali is easy enough to leave, though you will need to wander back to the main resort entrance.

You will be given a cheerful farewell when you exit the resort.

Rating:

Transportation

You can drive to the Sunset Beach Bar & Grill Bali and park your vehicle at the resort and then reclaim it as you leave.

It’s also easy to be dropped off by Grab or Gojek at the entrance. However, this part of Bali doesn’t have quite as many drivers as Canggu, Seminyak and Kuta and you may have to wait a while for a ride home, particularly at the busiest times of day.

Rating:

Social Media Presence

This was the only area in which we felt the Sunset Beach Bar & Grill Bali let us down. While this newly revamped beach bar offers a lot of excellence in its overall experience, there’s no social media presence at all.

What there is on Instagram is plenty of shots taken by visiting guests, but they are all quite old and don’t reflect the new environment of this bar & grill very well at all.

It’s a shame because this is a spot that is super photogenic and they ought to be celebrating it on Instagram.

Rating:

Other/General Comments

Sunset Beach Bar & Grill Bali is a nice spot by the beach for soaking up some atmosphere, it’s great for sunset watching and you’ll find that the service is first-rate.

The only real downside to being here is the cost, but it is the Intercontinental Bali Resort, you weren’t really expecting it to be cheap, were you?

Our Overall Opinion Of Sunset Beach Bar

The Sunset Beach Bar & Grill Bali certainly lived up to our expectations of the Intercontinental Bali Resort. It’s a very pleasant place to be and this newly revamped beach bar is ideal as a sport to unwind over dinner or Sunday lunch while watching the world go by.

The daily live music makes for a pleasant change in the evenings and won’t annoy those who are there to lounge around and enjoy a spot of relaxation.

Overall, it’s not a beach club but it’s still a very pleasant experience on the white sanded beach of Jimbaran and a great place to enjoy comfort foods in an idyllic location by the Indian Ocean.
