Want to go to one of the best beach clubs in Bali but you’re worried that the beach club you choose might not be eco-friendly?
Well, not every beach club in Bali has taken sustainability into account but more and more beach clubs are working to ensure that they live in harmony with the planet and the island that supports them.
With that in mind, we’ve found the 15 best beach clubs in Bali with a sustainable agenda to help you choose the right place for you with no guilt involved.
What Is Sustainability When It Comes To Beach Clubs In Bali?
There is no handbook of sustainability for beach clubs in Bali (or anywhere else) and that means the beach clubs on our list below have been included because they’re all making efforts to become sustainable.
That doesn’t mean that they are all equally successful or that they’re in the same stages of their journeys but it does mean they’re trying to be more than just a place for nice food and drink and are trying to give something back to the island that operates on.
For that reason, we’re not ranking this list (unlike most of our other lists) as we don’t have the kind of in-depth background in sustainability to decide which beach club is better than the other beach clubs in this relatively new endeavour.
Our 14 Top Beach Clubs In Bali For Sustainable Practices
Potato Head Beach Club
Potato Head Beach Club is a big contributor to the future well-being of the island. Their menu is designed to deliver “inspirational plant-based” dishes to get people to choose veganism rather than have it forced upon them.
They’re also aiming to be a zero-waste environment with a lot of work going into ensuring that the products they use are biodegradable or recyclable.
Potato Head Beach Club even has a design lab in their “creative village” which looks at turning waste into building materials and beautiful design concepts.
They say they like to encourage other people to do good while they’re having a good time so that sustainable habits become fully entrenched rather than imposed as a chore.
Their CEO says that he wants to leave the planet in a better state than he found it in. We think he’s succeeding and Potato Head is probably the most sustainable beach club in Bali.

FINNS Beach Club
FINNS Beach Club is our favourite beach club in Bali and we always recommend that you visit FINNS if you only go to one beach club.
They’re our favourite beach club for a variety of reasons, but one of those reasons is the big steps they are taking to ensure a more sustainable future for the island.
They’re on a mission to ensure that soon less than 5% of their waste will go to landfill (and they’re already a long way towards this).
FINNS pulls a huge amount of rubbish off Berawa Beach every day and has even invested in a robot to help clean the beach to a higher standard.
Their CEO is famous for his dislike of one-time plastics and they’re working very hard to eliminate these from their environment.
This is exactly the kind of initiative that every beach club could undertake, well apart from the robot, and improve Bali without breaking the bank. FINNS is always vying with Potato Head to be the most eco-friendly beach club in Bali.

Sundays Beach Club
Sundays Beach Club is less explicit about its sustainable targets than FINNS or Potato Head but they’re aiming to reduce plastic waste and to manage their overall waste production more responsibily.
They’re also working with the local communities and local farmers to support conservation initiatives on the island that help to preserve the natural beauty of Bali for future generations.
They have partnered with Diversey, a global brand associated with sustainable solutions, for their cleaning and hygiene products inside the beach club.
Their head chef, James Viles, is one of Australia’s best-known chefs for his commitment to sustainability in food and we’re sure that he keeps that standard here in Bali

Mari Beach Club
Mari’s big sustainable commitment comes in the design and construction of this small Canggu beach club.
They brought in Bamboo Pure, a sustainable architect, to create a space where “walls are not necessary” and the main material used was locally grown bamboo.
However, for now, it appears that Mari Beach Club has no bigger green agenda on the horizon. Though they do say that they try to draw on local culture for inspiration for their food and drinks.

La Brisa Beach Club
La Brisa on Echo Beach is one of the big fans of sustainability in beach clubs and much of their beach club was built from reclaimed wood which had washed up on Bali’s shores.
They also ensure that all their organic waste is used for compost and fertilizer rather than being sent to landfills to create problems for future generations.
You’ll also find that La Brisa’s menu contains lots of ingredients sourced from local farmers and many of their dishes use sustainably farmed fish.
The management team at La Brisa also tries to keep energy use to a minimum and is explicit that much of their lighting will never be used during daylight hours.

Luna Beach Club
Nyanyi Beach which is the home of Luna Beach Club is not the easiest place to get to but this beach club has put in some real effort to be sustainable.
All the materials used to build this beach club were sustainably sourced but the structures themselves were built to withstand winds stronger than any hurricane can create.
They say their Gardenia playground is fully sustainable too with no waste or environmental impact.
However, many local residents are upset at Luna creating noise pollution that carries into their homes at night. We think this is something that many beach clubs are going to have to address in the coming years, mind you, not just Luna.

Komune Beach Club
Komune Beach Club is part of the bigger Komune Hotel and the parent company has paid to install a plastic filter in the river mouth near the beach club to ensure that no waste reaches the sea.
They have cut out single-use plastics, separated their waste into compostable, recyclable, etc. and ensure that when something can be reusable (such as laundry bags) that they use a reusable product in preference to a consumable one.
They also source their fruit and veg from local farmers and they are working to ensure that their local ingredients are all grown in sustainable conditions.

Mana Uluwatu
Mana Uluwatu is not to be confused with the “Mana Earthly Paradise” resort in Ubud. The latter is one of the most progressive eco-friendly resorts on the island.
However, the beach club on the Bukit Peninsula is also working hard to ensure that its menu is fully sustainably sourced and that wherever free-range options are available that they are used.
It’s worth noting that this beach club doesn’t promote any other sustainable activities beyond this.

The Lawn
The Lawn’s management says that they have a full sustainability plan but they haven’t made that plan available to the public.
What they do promote is their regular beach clean-up activities and their use of sustainable ingredients in the meals that they sell.
They’ve also brought in Eco Bali to manage the waste within their facility which should ensure that much of it is recycled and repurposed.

Azul Beach Club
Azul Beach Club was built from tropical bamboo which they say was to promote sustainability and the club took steps to preserve a 60-year-old tree on the grounds rather than cut it down during construction.
The club has also appeared in the Singapore press due to its sustainably sourced supply chain for food and drink products.
However, we couldn’t find any evidence of further sustainability activities when we went looking for them.

Sandy Bay Beach Club
Sandy Bay is on Nusa Lembongan and is not the easiest beach club to get to in Bali. However, they fully embraced sustainability in their design and it’s one of the only clubs in the region to be solar-powered.
They have an eco-friendly menu that emphasizes sustainability in dining and the club has a public sustainability commitment.
This is a good thing, but we wish that all the beach clubs would be a little more transparent in what these commitments mean – we don’t think Sandy Bay is greenwashing, but we’d like to be certain of that.

Sugarsand
Sugarsand is part of the Hotel Indigo Bali and it’s an excellent Japanese restaurant even if it’s not one of the best beach clubs.
They say that they practice sustainable and eco-friendly practices particularly when it comes to the sourcing of ingredients.

Atlas Beach Club
Atlas Beach Club is involved in some sustainability efforts though they do feel like a PR opportunity at times, with a lot of press activity around each activity.
However, there’s no doubt that they do help to keep the local beach clean and have released 16,000 baby turtles. They also work to improve fitness in the local community.

FAQs
Are Beach Clubs In Bali Worth It?
Yes! In fact, the best beach clubs on the island are part of the Bali experience. There’s nothing like sitting on a white sandy beach, in a truly international crowd, surrounded by swimming pools (often with a pool bar), admiring Bali’s natural landscape and listening to local and international DJs.
Watching the sunset over the Indian Ocean with cocktails at a beach club is one of life’s best pleasures.
What Are Sustainable Activities In Bali?
Hiking in the national parks, enjoying the best beach clubs for sustainability, snorkelling, swimming, surfing, strolls in the monkey forests, and getting involved in some of the sustainable industries emerging in Bali.
There are plenty of eco-friendly things to do in Bali if you want to find them.
What Is The Least Polluted Beach In Bali?
No beach in Bali is entirely free of pollution. This is simply a fact of the amount of pollution in the ocean as a whole which dumps some garbage on the beach each day.
Berawa Beach near FINNS Beach Club is regularly cleaned each day (FINNS even bought a robot to help clean the sand). Nusa Dua Beach is also regularly cleaned by the posh resorts that line the beach.
However, we’d say that Balangan Beach or maybe Bias Tugel Beach is going to be the least polluted simply because these are well-maintained beaches that don’t see very many visitors outside of their local communities.
Final Thoughts On Sustainability And Beach Clubs In Bali
We don’t think any beach club on the island has reached 100% sustainability, yet. However, the best beach clubs on our list above are making a real effort that goes beyond the usual infinity pool, poolside daybeds and wood-fired pizza.
They understand that the stunning views as the sun sets are only going to be viable if we start to use local ingredients, source sustainable produce, work in reclaimed or biodegradable sustainable materials and create less waste while using less power.
Guests at these luxury beach clubs can be sure that they are not just in one of the best spots for watching the waves, but also for taking care of the land for future generations.
