Minoo Beach Club Review: Is Minoo A Minnow Or A Giant Of The Beach Club Scene?

Minoo Beach Club is in a nice spot by the Indian Ocean and it has a unique boat feature by the pool that helps it stand out from other beach clubs.

But is that all there is to Minoo Beach Club or is this a hidden gem on the Bukit Peninsula? Our team went to investigate and this is what they found.

Introduction – Getting To Minoo Beach Club

Minoo Beach Club is on Melasti Beach in Ungasan near Uluwatu, it’s about as remote a beach club can be in South Bali and you will need to travel quite far to get there.

At peak times, traffic can add substantial travel time, so if you want to visit Minoo Beach Club on a tight schedule, you might need to leave much earlier than you planned to.

Where Is Pantai Melasti Jl. Pengayutan, Ungasan, South Kuta, Badung Regency, Bali 80361, Indonesia

Website: Minoo Beach

Opening Hours: Open daily, every day except for Nyepi, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

What’s Inside Minoo Beach Club?

Minoo Beach Club offers a swimming pool, an indoor dining area, some sun loungers on the beach and by the pool, as well as bar and restaurant services. It also occasionally has live DJs but not every day.

Our Review Breakdown For Minoo Beach Club

All of our reviews, including this one for Minoo Beach Club, are conducted in the same way for fairness. The members of our team visit the club.

They rank it out of 5 for 20 different factors and then they vote on these rankings to ensure that they fairly reflect the team’s view of the venue. The venue also receives a total score from 20 (worst possible) to 100 (best possible). If you want to see how Minoo Compares to other clubs, you can visit our main ranking of all the beach clubs on Bali.

Once a review is published, we don’t revisit it for, at least, a year when we revisit the venue as a team.

Pre-Club Advertising

Minoo Beach Club has a decent website and a few posters dotted around the local area where the club can be found but there’s not much going on beyond that.

We always think it’s a shame when a beach club doesn’t advertise, it can mean that you sit there on the sun loungers alone for the day, particularly, in the low season.

The best part of visiting beach clubs is the vibe that other people give them and advertising brings in the people.

Location

We’re not fans of this location. While Melasti Beach is a very nice beach and of course, the view of the Indian ocean is lovely. This part of Bali is hard to get to and it’s not even near the popular resorts in Uluwatu.

There aren’t a huge amount of facilities nearby when you get more of being in the Minoo Beach Club, either.

It’s better than is neighbour Tropical Temptation, in that it doesn’t charge you 10,000 IDR to get to the front door but overall, it’s a long drive from most of Bali to get to this place.

Booking Process & Seating Options

You can book a seat at Minoo Beach Club but in one of the most bizarre moments we’ve encountered from Bali’s beach clubs, you can’t book on the beach club website.

Instead, you have to visit the MÏnoo Beach Club Instagram page, and then visit their LinkTree page, before you are connected to their WhatsApp.

This is so foolish a process that it might as well not exist and there’s just no excuse for this kind of nonsense in 2024.

If you have a website, you can, at least, link to your Whatsapp clearly from the homepage so that people can book, but better still, you could just invest a small sum and make it easy to book online.

Rating:

Entry Fee

Minoo Beach Club has no entrance fee and we think that’s the way it should be. You ought to be able to come and see the infinity pool and take a walk around the venue without committing to a minimum spend.

This is something we’re quite passionate about and there are other beach clubs in Bali that could learn from this.

In fact, Minoo made out list of the best beach clubs in Bali without a minimum spend requirement.

Rating:

Minimum Spend

If you want to sit around the swimming pool or with a view of Bali’s famed sunsets then you will need to agree to a minimum spend.

Depending on where you want to sit and what kind of furniture you’re using the minimum spend ranges from 150,000 IDR to 1 million IDR, this is fairly reasonable when compared to other beach club venues in Bali.

If you want to sit in the indoor dining area then you can enjoy a seat with no minimum spend at all. We think this is important as if there’s nowhere to sit without a minimum spend, a venue can’t really claim that there’s no entrance fee.

Rating:

Welcome And Security

The welcome at Minoo Beach Club is friendly enough and their security does carry out a bag check which we think is important.

Bag checks aren’t just to ensure that the venue doesn’t accidentally allow some food and drink in that you haven’t bought inside, but they’re also there to ensure your safety.

Rating:

Inclusions

Minoo Beach Club provides a towel with a minimum spend seat and you can’t use the infinity pool without a towel.

If you’re not committed to a minimum spend, you can’t rent a towel though, you’re not allowed to use the pool at all. This is fairly standard for beach clubs in Bali.

However, Minoo Beach Club makes no attempt to offer a premium or VIP service with more inclusions, which always feels like a missed opportunity for guests and the beach club alike.

Rating:

Service

The service at Minoo Beach Club was friendly and professional throughout our visit but it didn’t stand out in any way and it felt like they were doing just enough rather than trying to go the extra mile.

We think a beach club can really distinguish itself from the competition by offering world-class service and Minoo’s not there, yet.

Rating:

Entertainment

Minoo Beach Club has piped music during the week and on the weekends they have “Swim & Sunset” time when they bring in a DJ and amp up the party atmosphere for fun nights with the creative crowd that tends to flock to this venue.

There’s not much else in the way of entertainment here, they seem to be relying on the fact that they provide front-row seats to the famous beachfront of Melasti Beach to compensate for that.

Rating:

Pool Quality

The infinity pool is a decent pool but it’s not one of the best pools on an island covered in infinity pools galore, either. The water wasn’t the cleanest that we’ve seen though, we’re not sure that we’d want to swim in it.

There is a nice ship area by the pool which is great for getting some cool shots for your Instagram feed.

Overall, it’s fair to say that Minoo probably does better as a dance venue on weekends than as a swimming venue.

Rating:

Menu/Drinks Pricing

We thought the menu prices at Minoo Beach Club weren’t outrageous. Both the food and drinks were on the lower end of the price spectrum for a beach club.

This is in stark contrast to their neighbour on Melasti Beach, Tropical Temptation, which charges an arm and a leg for pretty much everything.

Overall, we think the pricing at Minoo Beach Club offers good value for money.

Rating:

Food And Drink Quality

We were hoping to sample delicious tapas and enjoy amazing food at this spot on Melasti Beach but overall, the food was just OK.

For every moment we had something we really enjoyed, we had a dish that we thought could have been much better.

The drinks are excellent though and as we expect from a beach club where we’re paying a premium for alcohol, they’re strong and well-mixed.

Rating:

Sunset View

Many people come to Bali for breathtaking sunsets in fact, some say the island has the most breathtaking sunsets in the world.

Unfortunately, while you can get a view of the sunset at this beach club, it’s not facing in the right direction for the best view of the sunset on the island.

Instead, Minoo Beach Club relies on commanding jaw-dropping views of the Indian Ocean, which might make it a good spot for a warm-up session before moving on somewhere else for sunset time.

Rating:

Music And Ambiance

We enjoyed the pop music that was piped into the venue at Minoo Beach Club, it’s certainly better than the generic “smooth tunes” approach that many other beach clubs seem to be pushing at the moment.

It can be a bit of a dance venue later in the day and on weekends when the party really gets started too.

The ambience is pleasant enough, though we don’t think it’s ever going to be a late-night heaven as there aren’t really enough people in this area to get it busy enough.

Rating:

Payment Options

You can pay by cash or card at Minoo Beach Club but we didn’t see any signs for QRIS or e-wallet or crypto payments.

Rating:

Exit Process

Getting out of Minoo Beach Club is relatively painless when it comes to leaving the club at the front door, however, there’s no doubt that this isn’t the easy club to get home from.

It’s in an area surrounded by the taxi mafia and you need to climb a hill (or pay a moto-taxi to take you up it) to get a Grab or Gojek.

Rating:

Transportation

As we mentioned in the last criteria, this is a terrible area for transport. Not only is it an area of taxi mafia but there’s a real shortage of Grab and Gojek drivers as you’re too far away from the main tourist areas.

This can mean very long waits to get home at the end of the day or paying a grossly inflated fee to get home.

There is parking here, but it’s also on top of the hill, so you’re left having to pay to return to your car on a bike, or hiking uphill after a day of being by the pool which is as far from a chilled-out concept as we can think of.

Rating:

Social Media Presence

Minoo Beach Club has social media and it’s kept relatively up to date. However, this beach club appears to have fallen into the trap of showcasing an almost empty venue on its social media.

We don’t get this, it’s not visually appealing and doesn’t showcase the best of a beach club.

Rating:

Other/General Comments

If you’re in Uluwatu and looking for the perfect evening spot to dance with some friends, this could be a good choice.

We could also see people in this area option to spend some long lazy days at Minoo Beach Club. But we can’t really find a reason to travel to this area, either.

Our Overall Opinion Of Minoo Beach Club

If Minoo Beach Club were just a bit closer to the rest of Bali, it might be one of those places you go to for fun nights every now and again, but it’s simply too far away and doesn’t stand out enough to be a place that you make repeat visits to.

Final Thoughts On Minoo Beach Club

Minoo Beach Club is a nice spot to while away some sunny days in Uluwatu. But it’s not a real party spot as it’s too far from the party destinations in Bali.

It’s also hard to get to and even harder to leave if you’re relying on ride-share transport. We enjoyed our visit to Minoo Beach Club but we think the journey makes it unlikely that we’ll return any time soon.
