Tree Bar by Maya Sanur Review: It’s Treely OK

This beach bar and restaurant is actually raised up above the beach and while it doesn’t pretend to be a beach club, it’s often considered to be a beach club by residents of Sanur.

So, we sent out our team to review Tree Bar by Maya Sanur to find out whether this place could compete with the beach clubs and this is what they learned.

Introduction – Getting To Tree Bar by Maya Sanur

Sanur is reasonably easy to get to from most of the other popular parts of Bali. However, the heavy traffic on the island often makes the journey more difficult than you might expect going by distance alone.

It can easily take 2-3 hours, for example, to drive from Canggu to Sanur or vice-versa in peak traffic.

However, once you’re there, you’ll find that the resort has ample parking and Grab and Gojek are both welcome to drop you off at the door.

You will need to go through the resort to get to Tree Bar, but their host staff will be more than happy to show you the way.

One thing you should be aware of is that Sanur is on the wrong side of the island to enjoy a glorious sunset, though the sunrise here is amazing.

What’s Inside Tree Bar by Maya Sanur?

Tree Bar has both indoor and outdoor seating areas, but there is no pool facility and while it sits right over the beach, there’s no direct access to the beach from the Tree Bar itself.

Our Review Breakdown For Tree Bar by Maya Sanur

While Tree Bar by Maya Sanur doesn’t fit the exact description of a beach club, we treat every venue in the same fashion to ensure fairness to the beach clubs that we review.

That means our review team visits the venue and scores it against a set of defined criteria (as listed below) with a mark from 1 (worst) to 5 (best).

Then, the team meets up at the office and debates the scores and then votes on them. One member of the team is selected to write up the review and to present the final scores on our website.

This also ensures that our readers get consistent reviews that allow them to easily differentiate between different venues. But you should know that a lower score may indicate that a venue lacks certain facilities rather than any failure to deliver good food, service, etc.

Pre-Club Advertising

We haven’t seen any advertisements online or offline for this facility at Maya Sanur and that doesn’t entirely surprise us as it’s not a huge restaurant.

However, we like to see places advertise because it helps ensure that they will be busy and lively when you visit. We think part of beach life is sharing a vibe with others and it’s hard to do that in an empty restaurant or club.

Location

Sanur is a lovely place but it’s not always easy to get to thanks to Bali’s traffic and it’s a bit apart from the other main beach towns in Southern Bali.

Once you arrive at the Tree Bar, you’ll find it’s easy to get into and there’s plenty of parking and access. The view over the beach is very attractive even if there’s no direct beach access.

We should also note that this is one of the few places where you can actually witness a sunrise at a beachfront place in Bali as it opens quite early.

Booking Process & Seating Options

You can book a seat at the Tree Bar but it’s a tedious process of either sending emails back and forth, using the website contact form, calling or using WhatsApp.

We don’t get this, in 2025, it’s not hard to implement an online booking system nor is it expensive to do so. For a fantastic resort, this feels like something that deserves some attention.

Until then, you’re going to have to go through a bit of a routine to book.

Rating:

Entry Fee

In keeping with the best practice in this industry, there’s no entrance fee for the Tree Bar. However, you should be aware that the hotel will prioritize its own guests at busy times and you will want to make a reservation if you’re travelling to Sanur to use the facilities.

But it’s worth noting that nobody should have to pay a fee to walk into a bar and have a drink or buy a meal from the menu. So, thumbs up to Tree Bar for this.

Rating:

Minimum Spend

There is no minimum spend at Tree Bar and while that sounds awesome too – as it means you don’t have to commit to spending a certain amount of money before you get settled and review the menu, it does have a downside.

It means that the restaurant has no particular urgency to keep your booking if you are late. They can throw it over to the first person in line, instead.

That’s fine if you’re only wandering down the beach and stumble across the place, but if you’re driving for hours to get to Sanur and the traffic here makes you 20 minutes late, it can be beyond frustrating.

Rating:

Welcome And Security

The welcome at this resort is extremely warm and friendly and you’ll feel very much at home as soon as you arrive.

However, there’s no bag check or security clearance and while we understand that this helps to create a certain vibe, we still prefer places that take steps to keep all their guests safe.

Rating:

Inclusions

As with any place that doesn’t charge an entrance fee and has no minimum spend, there’s nothing included here except for a seat somewhere in the venue when you order.

That’s OK, you can’t get to the beach to swim from here and there’s no pool, so you don’t need a towel and there are only some basic chairs to choose from too.

Rating:

Service

We were pleasantly impressed by the service at Tree Bar, it’s not quite the best we’ve ever had but it is very good and we were made to feel comfortable and welcome at every turn.

We also thought that the staff responded well to queries, were happy to help customize things to our dietary requirements and were prompt and efficient too.

Rating:

Entertainment

There is no entertainment at Tree Bar beyond some piped music, It’s a pleasant enough outdoor ocean vibe and that’s perfectly OK.

Rating:

Pool Quality

There is no pool available at The Tree Bar and that means we can’t rate the pool quality. The resort does have a pool for its guests and we thought that pool area looked lovely but it’s not part of the area that we’re reviewing.

Rating:

Menu/Drinks Pricing

The drinks and food pricing at this place are quite reasonable and on the lower end of what we’d expect in a posh resort or first rate beach club restaurant.

We thought the portions were very generous and that their narrowly defined Mediterranean menu had something to offer everyone without overwhelming you with too much choice.

Rating:

Food And Drink Quality

We thought the food and drinks were very good and the Linguine Alle Vongole was absolutely excellent.

It wasn’t the pinnacle of beachfront dining but we’d be very happy to go back to Tree Bar.

Rating:

Sunset View

There is no sunset view to speak of in Sanur, you’re on the wrong side of the island for that and the sun sets behind you rather than in front of you over the ocean.

Now, it’s worth mentioning that the sunrise is spectacular and this venue does open up early in the morning, so you might be able to come for breakfast and enjoy the lightshow at that time of day.

Rating:

Music And Ambiance

The music at this bar is fairly forgettable background music. It does the job of offering an audio backdrop to contrast with the sound of the waves, but there’s really nothing much more to say about it.

Rating:

Payment Options

You can pay by any reasonable means when you visit Tree Bar, though we didn’t see any signs up for the popular local QRIS payment system.

We don’t think this is going to be a major sticking point for Tree Bar’s fairly well heeled guests, mind you.

Rating:

Exit Process

Getting out of Tree Bar as is as easy as getting in, just follow your way back through the resort to either get picked up by your ride-share at the front door or to the car park.

This isn’t a huge place, so you’re not likely to get lost and the staff will be only too pleased to point you in the right direction if needed. You will be wished a warm farewell too as you leave.

Rating:

Transportation

There’s no real shortage of Grab or Gojek rides in Sanur though you may have to wait a few minutes longer for a ride than in Ubud or Canggu, it won’t be a long wait.

And it’s easy enough to get out of Sanur, as long as the traffic’s reasonable and head home.

Rating:

Social Media Presence

Credit where credit’s due, it’s not the busiest social media account, but it is regularly updated and shows an authentic side of the Tree Bar.

You can take one look at this Instagram feed and know whether this is your type of place or not.

Other/General Comments

If you’re looking for a meal and a drink with a nice view of Sanur beach, this is a good place to go but it’s not a beach club and that means you won’t want to spend all day here, either.

Our Overall Opinion Of Tree Bar by Maya Sanur

Tree Bar by Maya Sanur is a great place to grab a bite and enjoy the sight of the ocean playing on the shore of Sanur Beach.

No, it’s not a beach club but it doesn’t need to be. It’s a restaurant and bar by the sea serving good food at reasonable prices with a view. And sometimes, that’s all you really need.

Final Thoughts On Tree Bar by Maya Sanur

We liked Tree Bar by Maya Sanur a lot and there’s no doubt in our minds that it’s a great place for a quick meal in Sanur.

However, there’s also no doubt that this isn’t a beach club and that the absence of entertainment, swimming pools, etc. mean that you just aren’t going to want to spend a whole day at the Tree Bar.
