A Guide to Bali Beach Clubs for First-Time Visitors

So, you’re coming to Bali for the very first time and you want to have some beach club fun, but you’re not sure which beach club or beach clubs to visit?

Don’t worry, we’ve got 20 excellent beach clubs for you to choose from and each of them is guaranteed to help you make some happy memories in your time on this paradise island.

Why Should First-Time Visitors To Bali Go To A Beach Club?

Before we get into our list of beach clubs, let’s just take a second and examine why you might want to spend time at a beach club in Bali.

  • Atmosphere – beach clubs are designed for holiday makers. They promote a harmonious and fun atmosphere where you can let your hair down and let go of some of the stress of the working year.
  • Amazing pools – many of the best pools in Bali are in its beach clubs, who doesn’t want to sip cocktails at a swim-up bar in an infinity pool at sunset overlooking the Indian Ocean?
  • Awesome food and drink – a beach club is often much more than a beach restaurant with a pool or two. Many of them offer food and drink akin to a fine dining restaurant but in a more relaxed setting without the strict dress code.
  • To make new friends – Bali’s beach clubs are brilliant places for socializing and you can find that your holiday is much improved with a few new faces to talk to.
  • Entertainment – the vast majority of beach clubs on the island will have live DJs or live music of some kind at night, the best beach clubs have a whole host of other entertainment from incredible dancers to performers like magicians and trapeze artists. You’ll never be bored at a beach club.
  • To enjoy the beach in style – most beach clubs aren’t directly on the beach, though a few are, the majority are just at the edge of the shoreline before the beach, so you can enjoy the sand, surf, etc. as well as the pools and comfy seats.
  • Comfortable seating – the most comfortable seating in Bali is probably on the daybed of any beach club. These are sun loungers on steroids with plenty of cushioning to provide a really relaxing time.

Our Top 20 Beach Clubs In Bali For First Time Visitors

OK, now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s check out 20 beach clubs that are ideal for first timers. We’ve got three old hands offering, probably, the best experiences of all, then three new clubs which despite some teething problems are great places to enjoy.

Then, three hotel-style beach clubs if you want to fall back on a smaller but 5-star hotel equivalent experience. We’ve also get three beach clubs for those on tighter budgets where you can save money.

Bringing up the rear are 5 beach clubs that are outside of South Bali and the classic beach club areas of the island. And finally, we have three family friendly beach clubs for you to enjoy.

Three Classic Beach Club Experiences

These three clubs are old hands and among the best known beach clubs on the island. If you want polished experiences that are customer focused, these are the places to go to and newbies will find these the easiest clubs to navigate thanks to the service available there.

FINNS Beach Club (and FINNS VIP Beach Club)

We think FINNS is the best beach club in Bali and it’s possibly the best beach club in the world too (it’s billed as the world’s best beach club but we haven’t been to every beach club in the world just every beach club in Bali).

It’s a great place for newbies because the service is excellent. You’re going to be greeted warmly, you’ll get help to find your seat and then somebody will be nearby to help with anything else you could need.

The entertainment here is world class and it means that it’s the most interesting place to spend time at on our list too. We love the food and drinks at FINNS and it’s a beach club that we keep going back to, time and again.

Potato Head Beach Club

Potato Head has its own unique vibe and where FINNS is all uptempo and fun, Potato Head is a place to chill and let the world go by.

We like to hit Potato Head early in the day when we’re nursing a hangover and we fancy a little hair of the dog to get over it. The music is a bit bland and inoffensive but when you’re sweating on a daybed by the sea, that’s just fine.

They have a decent plant-based menu and while the service isn’t quite as good as it is at FINNS, it’s pretty good.

La Brisa

La Brisa’s cheery nautical theme and emphasis on all things sustainable are nice touches to what is a pleasant but chill beach club day out.

It’s not the biggest beach club in Bali and we like to visit La Brisa on a Sunday when they have their Sunday Market where you can pick up some tasty treats and souvenirs for the folks back home.

The chairs aren’t always the comfiest but otherwise, this is a nice spot where you can ease yourself into beach club life.

Three New Beach Clubs To Ease Yourself In To The Scene

Not every beach club has an established pedigree on the island and these three clubs are relatively newbies to Bali themselves. Each of them offers an enjoyable experience with some room for improvement.

Suka Sunset Beach Club

This Seminyak noob to Bali’s beach club scene has a great infinity pool with a lovely view over the Indian Ocean and because it’s attached to a hotel, the service is pretty good too.

The only downside is that it may be too new for word to have got out that it exists and on our recent visit it was quite empty – which is a shame because a bit of a buzz is part of what makes a beach club great rather than good.

Klive Beach Club

Klive’s unique selling point is that it’s the only beach club in Bali that’s spread over seven levels, we’re not sure why anyone would care about that but we enjoyed our recent visit to Klive anyway.

The Ungasan area is a bit remote and many of the beach clubs in this area take advantage of their location by raising their prices to insane levels but Klive delivers pretty good bang for buck.

It’s just a long drive to get there unless you’re staying on the Bukit Peninsula.

Magus Warung

This small beach club is one of our favourite spots in Ungasan, it might not have the facilities of the bigger beach clubs but it has a lovely ocean view and the prices are very reasonable for this area.

But as with Klive above, getting to this spot will mean a long drive from most of Bali thanks to the island’s traffic and you may find something closer to where you’re staying that’s as good.

Three Hotel-Style Beach Clubs To Try

If you feel like you’d enjoy a smaller beach club with 5-star hotel service to get you started in the beach club scene, these three clubs might be the right choices for you.

COMO Beach Club

COMO is the only hotel beach club to feature in our top 5 beach clubs in Bali and it’s really an upmarket hotel restaurant with a pool rather than a full club.

However, their breakfast buffet is amazing and their regular live music nights make a change from the DJs at most beach clubs.

You should know though that this club can attract a lot of children which can impact on your experience somewhat.

Infinity Beach Club

This Seminyak spot in a local hotel is very pleasant and it takes its name from the gorgeous oceanfront infinity pool.

The food is very Instagrammable and it’s tasty too, however, there’s a bit of atmosphere missing at Infinity Beach Club and it wouldn’t be our first choice of beach club even though we do enjoy being there.

Woobar Bali

Woobar Bali is a very upmarket hotel beach club inside the W Bali. It’s also one of the most expensive days out that you can have in a beach club.

The food, drink, service, etc. are all very good but we think the price tag on most items is simply far too high and the lack of people in the club when we’ve visited suggests we’re not alone in thinking this.

Three Beach Clubs For A Very Tight Budget

Not everyone can afford the prices at regular beach clubs, but these three clubs are aimed at those operating on a tighter budget. They don’t have all the facilities of the bigger clubs but they are easier on the wallet.

Warung Pantai

Warung Pantai is more of a humble beach bar than a beach club as such but it’s an excellent spot for chilling on a sun lounger at sunset.

There’s no muss and no fuss here, but that’s reflected in the incredibly cheap beer, cocktail and food prices. It’s just a shame it’s a bit of a drive out from Canggu or we’d go more regularly.

La Plancha

This spot is owned by the same people as La Brisa and while it’s not “the cheapest place” in the area, there is no minimum spend and you can enjoy their beanbags on the sand for free.

We strongly recommend if you want to go to La Plancha that you book in advance as it can get very crowded.

Favela Chic Beach Club

This is another very basic beach bar rather than fully-featured beach club but the cheap food and drinks on the beach at sunset are a big draw all the same.

However, be warned, the food is only so-so and we tend to eat before we go to Favela Chic and just indulge in cheap drinks.

Five Beach Clubs In Other Parts Of Bali

The vast majority of the best beach clubs on the island are in South Bali – Canggu, Seminyak, Kuta, Legian, Uluwatu, Nusa Dua and Ungasan.

These five clubs are in other parts of the island and province where the more adventurous tourist might venture.

Ohana’s

On the lovely island of Nusa Lembongan, you will find Ohana’s which has become something of a staple beach club experience out there.

The bonfires at sunset on the beach are a really nice touch but we do find the food a bit pricey for what it is.

Le Pirate Beach Club

You can’t take kids in the pool here, so it tends to be an adult venue but there’s no minimum spend to sit on the day beds and towel rental is just 15,000 IDR (that’s $1 USD or $1.50 AUD).

However, the club is nearly as small as the island it sits on, Nusa Ceningan, and we recommend you get there early in the day to get a daybed.

Lovina Beach Club & Resort

Lovina is on the North Coast of Bali not far from the second biggest city on the island, Singaraja, and this small beach club is the star of that stretch of coastline.

There’s a fabulous lotus pond in the grounds for you to enjoy as well as a decent sunrise viewpoint by the sea.

Octagon Beach Club

This is the only beach club in West Bali National Park and if you intend to go diving at Menjangan Island or explore the trekking opportunities in the park, it’s a great place to stop.

The food isn’t all that memorable but the setting is fabulous and you’ll be glad you came to Bali’s most remote beach club.

Nome Beach Club

This club on Nusa Penida island is super popular with visitors because there is no minimum spend and no entrance fee.

You need to get there early to get a bed though, they’re very popular and are often gone long before lunchtime.

Family Friendly Beach Clubs

Finally, if you’ve got kids in tow, not every beach club is open to children but these three beach clubs all offer child-friendly experiences.

Karma Beach Club

Karma is a resort based beach club on Melasti Beach and children are very welcome to enjoy some time there.

However, this area is currently seeing something of a construction boom and you may find that you can hear a lot of the work being done while you try to relax.

Sundara Beach Club, Jimbaran

Sundara is in the elegant Four Seasons resort in Jimbaran and it’s very family friendly but it’s also, as you’d expect for this chain of hotels, very expensive.

We love the Asian cuisine that they serve at this beach club but we wish it was just a little more wallet friendly.

Roosterfish Beach Club, Kuta

This beach club has a very good children’s play area and if you are with the Marriott-Bonvoy card scheme, you can earn points here.

The layout and design of this resort based beach club are very pleasant but it’s not the cheapest day out.

Address: Jl. Pantai Pandawa, Kutuh, Kec. Kuta Sel., Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361, Indonesia

FAQs

Are Bali Beach Clubs Nice For First Timers?

Yes! Bali’s beach clubs are among the best hospitality venues on Earth. You will be made to feel very welcome at any of the beach clubs on the island.

First-timers won’t stand out in the crowd and will find that their experience is as enjoyable as any hand’s experience.

If you’re at all nervous about visiting a beach club, we’d recommend that you opt for FINNS where you’re pretty much guaranteed to have an amazing experience.

I Can Only Visit One Beach Club In Bali, Which Should I Visit?

We’ve said this in plenty of other places on this blog but for our money, FINNS is the best all-round beach club here in Bali.

It provides excellent value for money, a premium destination, amazing service and without doubt, the best entertainment of any club on the island.

In addition, the food and drinks are of a very high quality and the sunset view is one of the very best in Bali too.

According to public figures, 1 in 8 visitors to Bali opt for this beach club and we can clearly see why they consider it to be the “world’s best beach club”.

Final Thoughts On Beach Clubs For First Time Visitors To Bali

The beach club scene in Bali is so varied and interesting that you will never be bored of it and a visit to Bali without a visit to a beach club, seems somehow incomplete.

If you only go to one club, go to FINNS, but if you have more time, you may enjoy visiting several beach clubs and sampling a wide range of experiences.
